Woodchester Valley, near Stroud, was established in 2007 when a single acre was planted on our Amberley site to assess the suitability of the land for growing vines. The first vintage, a crisp dry Bacchus was produced from the 2010 harvest. This was followed by a further planting in 2011, with the Woodchester site planted in 2012 (20 acres), and Doverow in 2013 (another 20 acres). Their own onsite winery was established in 2016, with the 2016 vintage being the first produced on site.
This year’s Cotswold Classic is a blend of Seyval Blanc, Pinot Blanc & Pinot Gris, but for the first time with the addition of 15% Chardonnay. As usual there is a bright refreshing acidity, beautiful fruit and as sense of fun, but this release is all grown up. Made in the traditional method, this new vintage of our Cotswold Classic continues the quintessential flavours of our unique sparkling wine and captures the essence of the Cotswolds in a glass.
There is more concentration, more complexity and a perfect balance. The nose shows the most wonderful baked apple & brioche aromase with a touch of lemon peel. The palate is well-balanced with ripe apple pie flavours combined with citrus notes. a touch of salinity and a long, complex and satisfying finish.
