Woodchester Valley was established in 2007 when a single acre was planted on the Amberley site to assess the suitability of the land for growing vines. The first vintage, a crisp dry Bacchus was produced from the 2010 harvest. This was followed by a further planting in 2011, with the Woodchester site planted in 2012 (20 acres), and Doverow in 2013 (another 20 acres). The winery was established in 2016, with the 2016 vintage being the first produced on site.
The Woodchester Valley, Sparkling Reserve Cuvée is a classic blend of 66% Chardonnay, 25% Pinot Noir, 9% Meunier from the Stonehouse, Amberley & Woodchester vineyards. This Reserve Cuvée has a minimum of 36 months lees ageing in bottle which is expressed by the toasted autolytic characters of this Chardonnay dominant blend and the warm 2020 vintage. This wine has inviting aromas of honeysuckle, lemon meringue and ripe orchard fruits leading to flavours of mellow citrus with a rich nuttiness. A well balanced, generous flavourful finish and delicate fine mousse makes this an elegant and extremely moreish wine. Wonderful on its own but also works nicely with a wide range of dishes – eggs benedict, crumbly farmhouse cheese, hotpot, roasted salmon paté & our favourite match….. Fish & Chips!
