Salzl Seewinkelhof, Figaro, Gruner Veltliner

The Salzl family’s grapes are grown in Austria’s ‘Neusiedlersee-Seewinkel’ national park – a world heritage region. Christoph Salzl is devoted to the area where the grapes are grown and is dedicated to the craft. Here, three generations of the family work together to produce these amazing wines.

The special microclimate of the region, with Lake Neusiedl as a climate regulator that stores heat, and primarily the many small salt lakes next to the lake give the wines fresh mineral notes and herbal spiciness. The salty and moist air, the limy soils of sand, black earth and gravel, and the bright sunshine are essential and valuable natural ingredients for our well-balanced, fruity and dense wines.

The vineyard has brown earth soil consisting of sandy clay with a high amount of gravel. Alcoholic fermentation takes place at 15 °C in small oak barrels, with regular stirring of the lees.

Skiing in Austria gives you a great opportunity to try to Gruner Veltliner which is fresh and light. However, this barrel-fermented white takes it to another level. The Salzl Seewinkelhof Figaro Gruner Veltliner is rich and complex, with a beautiful interplay of fruit and spice. It has a delightful creaminess, which entices you back into the glass time and time again.

The Salzl Figaro Gruner Veltliner is swathed in ripe stone fruit, a touch of grapefruit and lime, some grape sugar, subtle elderflower, as well as black and red pepper. The ripe fruit is wonderfully mouth-filling on the palate, underlaid by notes of  apple, nettle, and a fresh, creamy minerality which balances the wine wonderfully.
