From sunny Puglia comes the excellent winery Schola Sarmenti, which produces a range of beautiful wines in southern Italy. The Italian wines from Puglia are known for their powerful and full-bodied taste, enhanced by ripening under the hot sun.
Roccamora Nardò DOP is a red wine produced from 100% Negroamaro grapes from the Schola Sarmenti vineyard. The average age of the vineyards from which these grapes come is 20 years old. The grapes are harvested by hand and carefully placed in small, ventilated boxes to preserve their integrity. In the cellar, they are then further selected on a modern sorting table to guarantee the use of only the best bunches. Maturation takes place in steel at a controlled temperature.
Although the name ‘negroamaro’ can be translated as ‘black bitter’, this wine is anything but sour or tannic.
The Roccamora presents a unique fragrance register interwoven with notes of spices, tobacco and leather in a well-marked fruit finish. At the first sip, it appears energetic on the palate, and it intoxicates the palate with a softness and a velvety structure tempered by a fine tannin that leaves a pleasantly bitter trail. Rich aromas of toasted vanilla and anise ride over a plummy, dense core in this red. This is pleasantly plush on the palate thanks to smooth tannins, with juicy blackberry and red-plum flavours wrapped in toasted spice accents.
