Quinta do Pôpa are a family run estate, founded by José Ferreira and named in honour of his father, Francisco ‘Pôpa’ Ferreira. José (aka Zeca do Pôpa) bought vineyards in 2003. Situated on slopes in Adorigo and Tabuaço, overlooking the Douro River, these vineyards are a mix of old vines (some over 80 years old) and new, with many classic Douro varieties. The business is now co-owned and lead by the third generation, the siblings Stéphane and Vanessa Ferreira
Quinto do Pôpa released its first vintage in 2007, before working with well-known producer Luís Pato in 2009 to develop the house style. The wines are certified sustainable, and in the process of becoming organic.
Our production process began with the reception of the grapes in small 20kg boxes, ensuring the preservation of their quality. The grapes, from Baixo Corgo, were total de-stemming of the bunches and a delicate crushing and pressing to separate the liquid from the masses; cold decantation for 24 to 48 hours, thus increasing the purity of the wine. Alcoholic fermentation occurred spontaneously in our stainless steel vats, with temperature control to maintain ideal conditions. Finally, the wine aged on fine lees, giving it depth and complexity.
A blend of Viosinho, Gouveio, Folgazão, Rabigato, Côdega de Larinho and Arinto. Contos da Terra Branco is a Portuguese wine that stands out for its freshness and versatility. It has a complexity and richness of flavours. Fruity and fresh with green apple, pear, tropical melon, herbs, ripe citrus, with a touch of minerality.
