Mustiguillo, Mestizaje is a red wine from DOP El Terrerazo from the Valencia mountains, grown at 800 metres above sea level. Mostly made with indigenous Bobal grape variety but has a splash of Garnacha and Syrah in it too.
The three grape varieties are vinified separately then aged in old oak for just under a year to round it out. The blend of the 2019 Mestizaje, which varies from vintage to vintage, is 73% Bobal, 15% Garnacha and 12% Syrah. Destemmed and gently crushed. It is fermented in a combination of French oak (100hl) and stainless steel vats and matured in 225- and 500-liter oak barrels and oak vats for 10 months. Post fermentation maceration for 5-8 days. 91,600 bottles produced.
The Mestizaje is quite exuberant with a cherry, raspberry, strawberry nose with touches of stalky herbs. The wine is silky with ripe sweet black cherry and plum fruit. There is a gamey, barnyard, quality with touches of herbs. Ripe tannins and a long, spicy finish make this a very moorish wine.
