Based in the village of Montagny itself, the Berthenet family has been growing grapes for around four centuries, although the estate in its current form was set up in 1974. They work sustainably, allowing grass to grow between rows and working the soil rather than using herbicides. They farm 20 hectares and François Berthenet is the current winemaker.
The parcel for the cuvée Les Coeres is located in Montagny-les-Buxy. Coming from a plot located on a marl-limestone soil, it benefits from a south-west exposure, i.e. an optimal rate of sunshine. The plots of this cuvée cover an area of 0.65 ha. and are about 10 years old.
The grapes are harvested at optimal ripeness in order to have the best balance and then are gently pressed by the estate’s two pneumatic presses. The wort is placed in a settling tank for a period of 24 to 48 hours at low temperature. All of it is vinified and aged in oak barrels. There is no addition of new barrels.
The Montagny Les Coeres will sharpen your senses with its aromas of dried apricot and vanilla as well as its salty side on the finish. Its ageing in oak barrels will seduce your nose with gourmet notes of toasted butter.
