Mercurey 1er Cru, En Sazenay, Domaine Pillot, Magnum

The Pillot Estate boasts six generations of savoir-faire and a passion for winemaking that has been passed on from father to son. Always present in Côte Chalonnaise, the Pillot family began working the vines around 150 years ago.

With his older brother Romain, Laurent took over the estate from their father in 1991. Truly passionate about vineyard work, he focuses all of his energy on constantly improving the quality of their wines. The estate has 17 hectares producing 30,000 bottles per year.

Everything is harvested manually as part of the estate’s desire to maintain their traditional methods which is more respectful of the vines given the superior atmosphere. Their way of making wine is quite traditional also, always trying to reduce any inputs as much as possible. The harvest, which is 100% de-stemmed, then macerates for some ten days before being put into the barrels.

This Mercurey 1er Cru En Sazenay is a deep ruby red with purplish reflections. The nose reveals a subtle woody scent competing with the ripe red berries. Freshness, suppleness and finesse in the mouth give way to an ending with black fruity notes.
