Lambrusco, Concerto, Sparkling Red

The Medici winery has been producing a top-of-the-range Lambrusco for over a century. It all began with Remigio Medici, who founded a wine cellar in the late 19th century, with the aim of making the most of the family vineyards, which are located between the Via Emilia and the hills of the Enza Valley. Today, the company owns 80 hectares of land covering the finest wine-growing areas in the Emilia-Romagna region.

The vineyards are cultivated organically and the three generations of the Medici family follow their ‘Generation 2031’ manifesto, committing to a sustainable future. They follow a philosophy of uncompromising quality, working with yields 30-40% lower than the DOC regulations to produce wines that truly express the Lambrusco variety and the terroir. They have been duly rewarded by superb reviews and awards, including the Tre Bicchieri award from Gambero Rosso, placing Lambrusco among Italy’s top wines.

The grapes for the Concerto wine come from a single vineyard at La Rampata Estate in the western part of the Reggio Emilia Province. The Enza River flows nearby the estate and provides the vineyard with just the right amount of water to sustain the vines throughout the growing season. The soil is rich in clay but also has some stony elements which help with soil drainage. These soil characteristics also impart the Concerto wine with a rich colour, elegance, structure and tannins. The grapes are trained using the spurred cordon system, and yields are kept significantly lower than those specified in the Lambrusco Reggiano DOC specification, which help to ensure greater health for both the vine and the grapes. The vineyard is grown entirely organically and has been certified organic since 2021.

The grapes were fermented under temperature controlled conditions with selected yeasts, with traditional maceration lasting three to four days. This Lambrusco was made according to the Charmat method or ‘Metodo Italiano’, where the secondary fermentation took place in tank to obtain the sparkling wine. When the secondary fermentation was complete, the wine was gently filtered and bottled to retain freshness and the purity of fruit.

A sparkling red wine bursting with aromas of vibrant strawberry, raspberry and a touch of cherry. Dry and fruit-forward on the palate, with a rounded, refreshing character and harmonious balance, and delicious soft mousse.
