Cabernet Franc is much under-rated and is rarely cultivated outside its traditional habitats of Bordeaux and the Loire Valley in France. At Domaine Mas Barrau in the Gard region of Southern Rhône, Boutinot’s Guillaume Letang and Samantha Bailey a have worked together with the family of this organic estate near Nîmes to produce a wine that sets new standards for Cabernet Franc from southern France.
The grapes are grown on the high plateau of the Costière Nimes—old river beds of stony, free-draining soil of immaculate tended rows of vines. The vinification processes are very traditional and natural when making this wine.
Wild ripeness tamed by sweet seductive scents that take Cabernet Franc to a new level of pleasure. Orange zest over big, ripe blackcurrant fruit fills this super value red. It is incredibly long with fleshy fruit flavours counter-balanced by a woody character and a sing-song thread of wild honey. Finishing with a refreshing acidity. Sensual and seductive – even given its youth.
