Domaine La Lauzeta produces some fabulous organic wines from St Chinian. Established in 2015 by Tom Hills, with winemaker Florian Bruneau, this was a true ‘Garagista’ wine maker which now has a small winery in the village of Saint-Nazaire-de-Ladarez. Tom bought two old vineyards to create Domaine La Lauzeta, and immediately began organic conversion. He has quickly gained recognition, and his wines are listed on 17 Michelin starred restaurants in France.
Corteza red is an arrestingly satisfying blend of Syrah, with old vine Grenache, Carignan and Cinsault.
This is a young and vibrantly fruity red, with flavours of pomegranate, wild strawberry and damson. Once open, the wine continues to develop, making t enjoyable sipping our two or three nights. On day two, meatier notes (bacon fat) emerge, which adds an enjoyably savoury edge.
