Domaine de Dionysos’ Benjamin Farjon’s ancestors can trace their arrival in this region of the southern Rhone back to 1720 when the family escaped the plague then raging in the city of Marseilles. The family roots are so firmly implanted here that they have even given the name to their little hamlet north of Uchaux around which their parcels of vines now total some 50 hectares. Winemaker Andre Farjon has 50 hectares of vines that he started farming biodynamically in 2008 and are now certified organic.
The Côtes du Rhône La Devèze blends Grenache, Syrah, Cinsault and Carignan to produce a rich, black cherry and plump plum core, with hot stone notes buried on the finish. Medium-full bodied and well balanced, it beguiles with underlying notes of aromatic scrubby herbs like lavender and rosemary. Full of vitality and a real bargain.
