The vineyards of Saint-Georges, located next to Saint-Emilion. It is separated from Saint-Emilion by a small stream, the Barbanne, which winds through the grounds of Château Macquin.
Château Macquin covers an area of 30 hectares planted with 80% Merlot, 10% Cabernet-Sauvignon and 10% Cabernet-Franc. The vineyard vines with an average age ranging from 15 to 60 years. It is grassed in the middle of the row to reduce production and increase soil quality by developing natural humus.
After a long maceration, the wine is drained and put into vats and then into barrels. The cellar houses 246 oak barrels, which are replaced by a third every year. The wine rests for twelve to eighteen months in barrels before being bottled where it will wait at least ten years to be tasted at its heart.
With a purple, dark and brilliant colour, this wine has an intense nose of candied morello cherry, enhanced by pretty vanilla woody notes. The full-bodied and round attack is supported by beautiful silky tannins. The long and warm mid-palate is marked by candied black cherry, the velvetiness of the fine woodiness. Beautiful long finish with ripe and silky tannins.
