Château d’Aqueria, Lirac Blanc

Château d’Aqueria  is a leading property of 70 hectares, situated just outside the village of Tavel, has now been purchased by Guigal, but is being kept very separate from the parent team in Ampuis. Great investment is apparent and the new impressive Director Ralph Garcin and Catherine Nilly who have worked for the previous owners, the de Bez family, make a delightful and formidable team. The wines are now top in class!

Approximately 60% of the vineyard is devoted to Tavel Rosé and they also make small quantities of Lirac Rouge, Lirac Blanc and Côtes du Rhône. A good proportion of the of the vineyard remains wild garrigue which is perfect for the environment.

The white Lirac from Château d’Aqueria offers a fresh and fruity aromatic palette, both elegant and generous, it is the pure expression of the great southern terroirs The Lirac Blanc is a mix of Grenache Blanc, Clairette, Roussanne and Viognier. Coming from soils made up of limestone scree, this wine results from a blend of predominantly white Grenache, enhanced by Clairette, Roussanne, and a touch of Viognier. It is a Lirac of great aromatic complexity, endowed with beautiful minerality and freshness. remarkable balance is the signature of our terroir.

The grape varieties are hand-harvested in several passes, at just the right ripeness, then destemmed and gently pressed in our pneumatic presses during long extraction cycles. The juices are then placed in fermentation tanks for 15 days under temperature control at 16°C. The wine is then aged for 6 months in concrete and stainless steel tanks.

A complex nose full of finesse with aromas of peach, white flowers (acacia, honeysuckle) and a little tropical fruit. The medium-bodied palate offers a refined and pronounced minerality, orchard fruit and balanced acidity giving a delightfully fresh finish.
