Chateau Caronne Ste. Gemme has been in the hands of the same family since 1900. The vineyard is in the Haut-Medoc, just inland from Saint-Julien, and has a high proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon. The wines are classic traditionally-styled Bordeaux, with a good capacity for ageing. Plantings consist of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot and 3% Petit Verdot and the average vine age is 25 years. One of the most reliable Cru Bourgeois.
With 15 months in oak, this is a stylish, fruity and structured wine. The 2019 Caronne Ste Gemme is deep garnet-purple coloured with aromas of baked cassis, kirsch and stewed plums with earth and rose hips. The palate is medium to full-bodied and firm with nice freshness and expression, sweet tobacco and berry fruit with finishing with an herbal lift.
