Saint-Emilion is a mosaic of terroirs and its always exciting to find something new. Here we have Château Capet Duverger, Grand Cru. Family worked since 1620, and now managed by the ninth generation of this family of winegrowers located on Saint Hippolyte at the foot of Coteaux & Haut de Vallée. Planted in 3 varied plots – with Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon. Labelled in several environmental certifications since 1996, necessitating the limitation of chemical usage. (HVE) They have a great respect for the global balance as well as the sustainability of this environment.
The 2019, from a delightful vintage, is a blend of 65% Merlot and 35% Cabernet Franc. Fermented in a combination of oak barrels and stainless steel. Aged in 70% new oak and then a variety of used oak for the rest for 12 months.
Château Capet Duverger 2019 is a medium-plus-bodied, 65% Merlot and 35% Cabernet Franc. Luscious with dark plum, black raspberry, chocolate and nutty flavours. Fresh, zesty and polished on the palate. Tannins are ripe with some grip but add texture and balance with the underlying acidity. Still youthful but delicious. Decant for an hour prior to pouring. Enjoy it from 2025 through 2033.
