Cardanera, Carignano del Sulcis, Argiolas

The story of Cardanera producer Argiolas begins in the early 1900s with the birth of Antonio, the patriarch, in the province of Cagliari in Sardinia. A little over thirty years later, in 1938, Antonio gave life to the Argiolas winery. Planting row after row, joining vineyard to vineyard, we began to produce wine, always seeking quality with rigor and method. Then came Antonio’s sons, Franco and Giuseppe, who inherited their father’s passion for vineyards and wine, and they shared it and passed it on, first to their wives and then to their own children.

Today, the third generation of the Argiolas, that of Antonio’s grandchildren, is already actively working in the cellar.

Currently, divided into five distinct estates, the vineyards reach a total extension that exceeds 230 hectares. In respect of the environment, ecosystem and territory, there is also room for research and experimentation, for vine plants which, in some cases, are even cultivated ungrafted. Wines that come out of these Sardinian cellars excellently represent superior quality as well as a strong integrity to the terroir.

This red wine is produced from one of the most representative grapes of Sardinia, the carignano. Harvesting is performed when the grapes are at their optimum ripeness in order to obtain balanced tannins, with the freshness and softness so typical of young Carignano. Fermentation and maceration at controlled temperature for an average period of 12-15 days. Transfer to cement tanks where malolactic fermentation is carried out. Ageing for two months in bottle prior to release. Unfiltered.

Cardanera Carignano del Sulcis – On the nose the aromas are intense with evident notes of small red fruits, Mediterranean scrub and wild flowers. Full-bodied and vibrant on the palate with blueberry, red cherry, raspberry fruit flavours and a hint of pepper. Fine, velvety tannins and fresh acidity adding a satisfying savoury quality.
