Buena Vista Chardonnay, Carneros

Founded in 1857, Buena Vista is California’s first premium winery, and its history is as colourful as it is proud. Today, the legend is being re-born under the vision of Jean-Charles Boisset. Just outside the town of Sonoma, the original winery is now a California historic landmark. Just across the Golden Gate from San Francisco, The Carneros region is kept cool by Bay breezes and thick fog, and has long been famous for cool-climate pinot noir, chardonnay and sparkling wine based on the two varietals.

The Carneros Chardonnay grapes were hand harvested at night to preserve fruit character. Due to the geological diversity of the Ramal Ranch vineyard, blocks were harvested based upon optimum ripeness and flavour maturity. The grapes were whole cluster pressed, and the juice was fermented in barrels and aged sur lie, with the lees stirred every two weeks for 6 months. The wine was then aged in French oak barrels (33% new) for 9 months.

This delicious chardonnay opens with brilliant aromas of white flowers and baked apple, apricot, layered with notes of toasted almonds and clementines. Pineapple and mango flavours spread across the palate with notes of toasted brioche and a thread of minerality. This wine has balanced acidity followed by a clean and crisp finish.
