The Sambardier family from Manoir du Carra have been our ‘go-to’ Beaujolais producers for many years. They have 35 hectares of vineyards with the 19ha of Villages on exceptionally exposed granite slopes in the southern Beaujolais hills above Denicé, where they have been for generations. Beaujolais and Burgundy are neighbours so it’s not really a surprise to see them produce a Bourgogne Pinot Noir
This Bourgogne Pinot Noir is new and from their own 1 hectare vineyard of young vines, which are south-facing on chalky soil at an altitude of 200m, two miles from their cellars. It is aged 90% in tank and 10% in barrique. It is fragrant with excellent berry fruit, a gamey back note, with silky tannins and a lovely finish. Excellent value and very drinkable.
