Bourgogne Cote-d’Or, Domaine Sylvain Bzikot Pere et Fils

Based in the heart of the Côte de Beaune village of Puligny-Montrachet, Sylvain & Béatrice Bzikot (pronounced BZee-cot) own an impressive estate of 15 hectares. Sylvain’s grandfather arrived in Burgundy from Poland just before the Second World War and steadily built up the estate in the post-war years when land was plentiful and cheap. For a long time, most of the crop was sold in bulk to the Burgundy négociants but now all is bottled at the domaine. The estate’s delicious Bourgogne Chardonnay is made from vines within the commune of Puligny but just too low on the slope to qualify for the appellation.

Domaine Sylvain Bzikot is producing some of the best Bourgogne blanc in the area and it delivers a good deal more than you might expect. With fruit coming from vineyards just outside Puligny-Montrachet and Meursault, it has all the hallmarks of higher end Côte de Beaune whites.

The Bourgogne Cote-d’or is full of bright citrus, fresh minerality, and a touch of roundness. A gentle whisper of oak adds depth, bringing subtle vanilla spice that complements the crisp lemon and stone fruit notes. Fresh, vibrant, and impressively long on the finish, this is a serious Burgundy without the serious price tag.
