Pfaffl Wines is two siblings that manage the family winery together. Roman Josef Pfaffl is the vineyard manager and winemaker. He sees it as vital to take responsibility for these tasks personally. Roman’s sister Heidi Fischer takes care of business administration and her specialty; marketing.
They cultivate around 155 hectares. The vineyards are scattered around the village of Stetten in the Weinviertel and in neighbouring Vienna. Due to the numerous vineyards and their diversity, they are able to produce a broad spectrum of wine styles.
Pfaffl Wines are “Sustainable Austria” certified, and take that very seriously. They always maintained green cover between the vine rows, in recent years also deliberately cultivated flowering plants to nourish beneficial insects. They use electricity exclusively from renewable energy sources, and equipped the roof of the cellar with a photovoltaic system in 2022. In 2023, they also clad the facade of the winery with photovoltaic panels. In 2024, an electricity storage system is being installed to supply electricity at night. Also switching packaging to lightweight bottles and changed the shape of the wine boxes to reduce packaging and CO2. The winery is heated with geothermal energy and in the wine cellar they work with heat recovery from fermentation.
After fermentation the wine was stored in stainless steel tanks, after 3 months the wine was bottled in Burgundy-bottles with screw caps.
The Wien 1 is a classic Viennese style blend: Riesling brings fruit and fragrance, Pinot Blanc body, and Grüner Veltliner spice. The result is a crisp, vivacious blend with animated charm. A true summer wine! Refreshing, animating, fruity. In sum: pure pleasure!
