Jean-Luc Mardon is the 5th generation of his family to run this 45 hectare Domaine Pré Baron in Oisly, Touraine. He has been at the helm for 20 years, taking over from his father, Guy. He is continuing to make really top quality, accessible wines.
The L’Elegante is make from hand-picked, carefully selected estate fruit from the best parcels of old vines, 30-35 years old, grown on gentle south-facing slopes with sandy gravel soils. 20-25% of the harvest will be macerated on the skins, depending on the characteristics of the vintage. This is followed by a slow fermentation at 18°C for three weeks in stainless steel vats. There is no malolactic fermentation. Wines are matured on their fine lees until bottling in the following spring for added texture and body.
Rich, single estate vieilles vignes Sauvignon Blanc from a warm vintage, showing notes of exotic tropical fruits. The nose is heady and herbaceous with wafts of candied lemon zest, greengage and pineapple tops and grassy meadows. The wine has significant palate weight, is very rounded with a rich texture and long finish. The tropical fruit and fresh citrus tang are very inviting.
Sustainability: Jean-Luc Mardon’s estate is certified by Terra Vitis, which is a rigorous code of conduct for sustainable winemaking covering all aspects of production from vine to bottle.
