Chateau Fayau, Grains Noble, 2009, Cadillac

Chateau Fayau is a beautiful chartreuse style building surrounded by vines in the heart of the historic village of Cadillac. The 35-hectare estate has been in the Medeville family since 1826 who carry on the proud tradition of making sweet botrytised wines and a traditional red Bordeaux blend. The vineyards are sustainably cultivated and are hold the HVE certification.

The sweet Cadillac is a wine obtained from the “noble rot” caused by Botrytis cinerea. Perched on generally steep slopes, the vines are exposed to the hot sun of the southern slope. Its calcareous and gravelly soils are particularly favourable to this delicious nectar called the sweet wine. Vinified and aged in French oak and acacia barrels for 18 to 24 months.

This exceptional vintage “Grains Nobles” is 100% Sémillon and is only produced in peak years of sweet wine harvest. A beguiling amber yellow colour in the glass. The nose reveals notes of marmalade and quince. Lively on the attack, the palate reveals aromas of dried fruits and candied fruits. The wine then gains strength, revealing an elegant structure, highlighted by aromas of honey and acacia flowers.
