Chambolle Musigny, Argillieres, Domaine Michel Magnien

The appellation of Chambolle-Musigny sits in the heart of Burgundy’s Côte de Nuits neighbouring other famous names such as Gevrey-Chambertin and Nuits-St-Georges. The vineyard of Les Argillieres sits immediately alongside the renowned Grand Cru, Le Musigny and the wines from here have a distinct perfume and finesse. The vines of Domaine Michel Magnien are around 50 years old. After fermentation the wine is aged in a mix of used oak barrels and clay amphora jars which they consider to give the best expression of the terroir.

Beautifully floral on the nose with lots of red berry aromas. Bright and vital with elegant cherry and raspberry fruit with a subtle earthy gameyness. Certainly an elegant wine with a fine minerality and silky tannins.

Run by Frédéric Magnien, who is the fifth generation to run the family estate, they are based in Burgundy’s Côte de Nuits village of Morey-Saint-Denis. Since 2008 the domaine began operating on a completely organic basis and they followed this up in 2015 by becoming a Demeter approved biodynamic estate.
